This all started because I was tired of hearing of farms closing down while many big corporations succeed at selling us pesticide and hormone ridden foods.
New Jersey has over 9,000 farms. We're surrounded by some of the best soil and hardest-working farmers in the country. And yet when we want fresh eggs or real honey, we have two options: driving a distance to a farm stand on a Saturday morning, or settle for whatever the grocery store shipped in from California or even out of the country.
That doesn't make sense to me.
So I started asking farmers: why don't more people buy directly from you?
The answer was always the same. "They don't know we exist. And even when they do, they don't have time to drive out here."
Meanwhile, customers told me: "I'd love to support local farms, but I can't spend my whole weekend driving around finding what I need. "
Both sides wanted the same thing. They just needed a bridge.
